Attention: A window to studying consciousness? is a Cognitive Science class taught by Jane Couperus.

Course Description

This course will focus on research on selective attention and how it can inform our understanding of what information becomes available to conscious perception. In addition we will look at research on the development and environmental factors that influence how and what we perceive. The first section will be neuroscience oriented, the second section of the course will investigate the development of attention and the final section will focus on environmental and cultural factors. The goal of this course will be to understand the role of selective attention in perception, read and dissect primary literature, and discuss how conscious perception is altered by the factors that influence selective attention.
