Energy, Resources, and American Foreign Policy
An assessment of American foreign policy in the Obama era, with particular reference to the issues of energy, the environment, and natural resources. Will begin with an analysis of the main features of Obama's foreign policy and how they differ from those of the Bush administration. Will then focus on Obama's approach to energy, natural resources, and global warming - and how these affect American foreign policy. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role of energy and environmental issues in America's ties with China, Russia, Africa, and the Middle East. Students will be expected to follow world affairs on a daily basis, to examine a particular problem in U.S. foreign policy in depth, and to report on their research in class.
