Feminists United Collective Unrecognized
Feminists United Collective (FUC)'s mission is to: Start and continue inclusive and constructive conversations surrounding feminism and gender equality; engage with feminism and gender in a broad context; address these issues not only within the Hampshire community, but on a local, national, and international scale; understand intersectional oppressions by examining the sexism within a wider context of racism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, cissexism, and ablism; apply our understanding of the topics at hand to create positive social action on both small and large scales. We want to engage in anti-violence against women education as well as education and activism for reproductive rights and health. Our goal is to denounce both patriarchy and matriarchy on Hampshire College campus, and promote a community of diversity and equality. FUC plans to develop gender-related programs outside of academia and collaborate with other activist and educational groups on campus to create solidarity for gender-related social change. We want to create more conversations on campus surrounding feminist theory and practice, and collaborate with students on how to enrich Hampshire's feminist movement. Our specific goals for this year are to raise awareness for FUC through art, including vagina art, and art that engages students in why feminism is important to them, so they can be a part of the movement. As well as raising awareness, we want to promote national feminist campaigns to increase student access to birth control on campus, as well as petition to end advertising practices and clinics that are deceitful and misleading. FUC plans to create events that will directly engage students in feminist action, whether it be campus wide or international. We plan to develop events that are spaces for dialogue about feminism, as well as educational events that will incorporate art. In addition to educational events, we want to hold events that will be both entertaining and productive to FUC's mission. We plan to use skills for networking such as social media to increase awareness and educate.
