Mission Statement

The Hampshire College Democrats seek to support Democratic candidates on both the local and national level by hosting campuswide events. We are chartered under the  College Democrats of Massachusetts which is a branch of the College Democrats America. We aim to foster a strong political climate on campus by raising awareness of the issues affecting students through club meetings and events. As a club, we plan to campaign heavily by canvassing and phone banking for Democratic candidates in Massachusetts. We also strive to inspire political activity on campus by registering students to vote and offering information about the candidates. We have materials such as clipboards to facilitate this registration. Additionally, we hope to collaborate with other Massachusetts College Democratschapters in the five-college consortium to plan events and day trips. Follow us on twitter at twitter.com/HampshireDems! Also check out our brand new blog at hampshiredems.blogspot.com/!

Fall '13 Semester

Our meetings will be focused on letter writing in support/against national bills in Congress, or MA bills in the state legislature. In past semesters, we had endorsed candidates (typically Democrats) and supported them through attending rallies, phone banking, voter registration and education, and canvassing. However, there are no current elections in MA this semester, so our focus will be more centered around letter writing and engaging with our Congresspeople.

Fall '12 Semester

Trick or Vote - October 31! We will be gathering at 7 PM in the Merrill Living Room in costume to go out into the Amherst community and remind everyone to vote. This is no normal canvassing event! We will prepare with a refresher on where all the polling locations are as well as the date of the election and how to introduce yourself to people at each house. It'll surely be spooky fun!

Spring '12 Semester

Campaigning with community members and the five college chapters of MA College Democrats for Elizabeth Warren and President Obama

College Democrats of MA Convention on March 31-April 1 at Emerson College in Boston, MA

Canvassing in Springfield, MA for Obama and Elizabeth Warren in underrepresented voting communities

Local election canvassing for young Democratic candidates.

Collaborating with UDems on at least one event.

Rearing up for the 2012 election including Obama and the congress seat previously held by Senator Kennedy! Get excited!
