Mount Holyoke College
Mount Holyoke College is a private liberal arts college for women located in South Hadley. A member of both the Five College Consortium and the Seven Sisters, it is the world's oldest womens' college. 2100 attend Mount Holyoke.
Two years following the creation of the Wheaton Female Seminary (now Wheaton College), founder Mary Lyon had raised $15,000 to build Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, which opened its doors in 1837. Mount Holyoke Female Seminary received its collegiate charter in 1888, becoming Mount Holyoke Seminary and College. The name was not simplified until 1893.
