Monique Roelofs, associate professor of philosophy, holds an M.A. from the University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. She teaches and writes on contemporary European and Anglo-American philosophy, with a special focus on aesthetics and the philosophy of art and culture, feminist philosophy and critical race theory, and the intersection of European, analytical, and postcolonial philosophies. While a recipient of the Carol G. Lederer Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Pembroke Center at Brown University, she explored the relations between aesthetics, politics, and difference. She is currently at work on a book entitled The Cultural Promise of the Aesthetic , and on guest-editing a special issue of Contemporary Aesthetics entitled Aesthetics and Race: New Philosophical Perspectives.
