An interdisciplinary cohort of do-ers, Hampshire College SEARCH is a collaborative platform for social and environmental action. We use entrepreneurial tactics to support our peers working toward social change.
"Policy in Action" is a community engagement and dialog monthly program kicking off Fall 2012. Once a month SEARCH will host an off campus community-based learning activity in the Pioneer Valley to give students the opportunity to ground their academic studies through civic engagement. Immediately following each month's community-based learning activity, SEARCH will provide space for dialog on a specific public policy issue facing the communities with whom we interact. The goal of the Policy in Action program is to inspire students to: 1. consider how policy plays a role in combatting and propelling social injustices; 2. connect participatory citizenship and social entrepreneurship.
"M is for Mobilize" is an annual student produced, day-long summit including panels, workshops, incubation sessions, and networking events, that will mobilize a compassionate and supportive Hampshire and Five College community around social action ventures. Attendees will leave our critical dialogue empowered with tangible skills and connections to re:imagine social change and entrepreneurship. We intend to host next year's program in February of 2013.
"Action Consulting" is the name of our umbrella support system for supporting student social action on campus. In addition to advising fall and spring grant applicants to the Social Venture Fund and student project groups from the social entrepreneurship courses, we provide regular weekly meeting times for students to bring their ideas. During our regular weekly consulting hours, starting Fall of 2012, we will offer proposal, "business plan" and on/off campus grant application writing support to students who are working on social change initiatives.
Founded in 2008 by Hampshire students Asa Hyde, Brendan Sweeney, Ananda Valenzuela, Sam Judelson, and Henry Hyde, the program is still in its youth. The group has focused on bringing relevant and informative speakers to campus, holding educational events, hosting an annual elevator pitch competition, consulting on student ventures, and continually supporting the Hampshire College Social Venture Fund. Those interested in using our consulting servicesw, joining the SEARCH student group, or aiding the program in any manner are encouraged to contact SEARCH at firstname.lastname@example.org.

SEARCH - in need of redesigning outreach? Shona suggests more casual settings for meetings (cafe? Tavern?) and a more relaxed atmosphere. She thinks it will make it more likely that students come in with their own projects and feel involved. Will discuss more next week.
Jonah: start compiling information for consulting plan
Justine: email Ivana from CPSC (and maybe Mary) and tell what we have thus far and how they can help
Irissa: begin to interview/talk with Mobilize Committee about their experiences
