SISTERS celebrates polyculturalism. We are a support group where women of color and international women come to share experiences, both common and different, and use this as a premise for which strength, confidence, and a sense of community is gained. SISTERS supports issues of social justice and advocates and organizes around issues of gender, intersectional identity, race and structural oppression.
SISTERS plans on organizing many events this semester to support women of color and international women on campus.
Most of our meetings will cover issues surrounding the topic of our identities and the importance of being a women of color. Through out the semester we plan on doing film screenings, discussion circles, spa nights, cook nights, and at the end of the semester we look forward to having a mixer with the Men of Color group also known as MOCA.
We have a lot of hope in this semesters' members and we plan to build a stronger community between us women of color through various activities. As a closed group we hope to create a safe space where women of color can talk about how their identities are being challenged by people who do not share or understand our identities.
